The M.Tech course on Digital Electronics and Communication Systems aims at providing in-depth knowledge to students of Electronics and Telecommunication background in various subject of present day interest like Advanced Digital Communication. Modern DSP, Advanced Embedded System, Antenna Theory and Design, Digital Electronics, Error control and coding, Advanced Computer Architecture, along with a course on Linear Algebra and elective courses like CMOS VLSI Design, Wireless & Mobile Network, Advances in VSLI design, Real Time Operating System which the student have option to select various other subjects of their interest.
The main course on Advanced Digital Communication enriches the student with concepts of digital modulation, channel coding, equalization techniques, spread spectrum communication and communication through fading channel. This course gives an overall idea of basic modulation techniques and gives an introduction to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing and an insight into the channel coding techniques specifically taking convolution coding. Different methods of convolution encoding and decoding techniques are discussed serving as a foundation for turbo coding. It also deals with spread spectrum communication giving importance to application such as code division multiple accesses. This course also gives an opportunity to the student to understand and implement various systems using the utilities of communication tool box in Matlab.
The aim of the Error Control Coding course is to present the fundamentals of error control coding techniques and develop theoretical and practical skills in the design of error control encoders/decoders.
The Modern DSP involves variable sampling rates, multirate signal processing & their application in communication systems , adaptive filters and a good practical knowledge on the DSP kit 6713 .
The course on Advanced Embedded Systems presents the fundamentals of hardware and software techniques in embedded systems and develop theoretical and practical skills in the design of processor based systems.
The Antenna Theory and Design course adds the computational electromagnetics apart from basic design and analysis of various antenna system. The practical attached to this course adds very good skill for the students to independently analyze and design antennas.
The Random process and Probability theory is also included to aid the student to apply the concepts in various communication problems.
The Digital Electronics course takes the student to the concept of state assignment problem and how it affects the structure and complexity of the sequential machines, serial decomposition, parallel decomposition of the machines, Synthesis of multiple machines and about state identification experiments which are designed to identify the unknown initial state of the machine and fault detection experiments.
The course also includes a mathematical subject on Linear Algebra which deals with the theory of systems of linear equations, matrices, vector spaces, determinants, and linear transformations. In many areas of physics the mathematical idea of vectors play important role. Linear Algebra and its Applications contribute new information or new insights to matrix theory and finite dimensional linear spaces.
Apart from the core courses the elective subjects like the ones listed above can be chosen as per the specialization desired.
Outcome
At the end of the course the student will be able to handle the different communication system problems, related channel coding techniques, modulation techniques, spread spectrum & equalization techniques, DSP, Embedded Systems, Antenna Design, and a number of telecommunication problems The problem addressed can be continued as a project in the company, academic project and research problem in the higher studies.
Successful completion of the course will facilitate progression to advanced study or to work in the fields of communications , signal processing and computer engineering.
